School of Mechanical Engineering (SMEC) at VIT Bhopal offers undergraduate degree and research programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. SMEC started in the university right from its inception. Faculty members in the school belong to different specialization areas in Mechanical Engineering like Machine Design, Thermal & Fluid Sciences and Manufacturing Engineering. Aerospace Engineering faculty are from structures and propulsion background. School offers major core courses and various elective courses that are designed after detailed consultation with industry experts.
All faculty members in the school are actively involved in research and consultancy work. They are working in different research areas such as Acoustics and Noise Control, Energy, Applied Thermal Systems, Vibration Control, CFD, Non-destructive Testing, Aerospace Structures, Manufacturing Engineering, FEM, etc. The school adopts a student-focused teaching-learning methodology called CALTech, which motivates students to learn concepts effectively and develops research interest as well. SMEC is equipped with all state of the art laboratories necessary for undergraduate studies. Apart from the regular curriculum framework, the students have numerous opportunities to develop their soft skills, skill sets as per industry demand and overall professional development.
