Bioengineering is an amalgamation of biotechnology and biomedical engineering. Its uniqueness is its highly interdisciplinary nature, where it encompasses knowledge from a wide spectrum ranging from natural science domains to electronics, material science to computer science and even mechanical engineering to simulation of systems. It blends diverse knowledge of science, engineering and technology to solve real world problems of environment and health. Biotechnology sectors covers diverse fields such as genetic engineering, drug development, food technology, stem cell and regenerative medicine, tissue culture, nanobiotechnology, genomics, protein engineering, synthetic biology and systems biology; whereas Biomedical engineering encompasses domains like neural engineering, rehabilitation engineering, biomimetics, biosensors, biomechanics and implant design, tissue engineering and development of artificial tissues and organs, bioinstrumentation and biosignals as well as image processing. By choosing bioengineering one can get the essence of all these diversified and multidisciplinary domains. The School of Bioengineering is a newly developed school with a focus on integrated approach to solve problems on biomedical and biotechnology. The curriculum offers flexibility for the students so that they can choose subjects based on his/her inclination within the vast field. The department offers a set of core and elective courses that helps students gain knowledge about the real world problems through holistic learning. The sustained effort is to produce graduates with potential to solve real world problems aided by the techniques of biotechnology and biomedical engineering. With an aim to carve a distinguished place for itself in the world of bioengineering, the school strives to:
- Become a pioneering world-class centre of excellence in education and research through collaborative, consultative and participatory approaches.
- Nurture effective capabilities for the development of high quality technical and scientific manpower to meet the challenges of the knowledge era.
- Provide cost-effective Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based solutions and value-added services to a variety of organizations and to meet the expectations of stakeholders.
The program aims at educating the students on all facets that make up this growing industry, through workshops/ seminars, market research, industry visits & contemporary expert lectures. The students are encouraged to undertake assignments/ project work from the industry and work towards finding possible solutions to integrate their practical knowledge with industrial practices. Keeping in view the employment potential, in-depth knowledge is provided to the students.
